There are 11 US states that allow players to remain anonymous when they win the lottery. Unfortunately, New York is not one of them. Claiming your lottery winnings requires your full name and surname, ID number and the name of the retail outlet where the ticket was purchased.

However, there are some ways around it to remain (kind of) anonymous. In 2018 the New York Senate approved a bill that would help you remain anonymous if you requested it from the State Gaming Commission. Unfortunately, the New York State Governor vetoed this bill, claiming that transparency would let the public know that there are real winners and that there is no dishonesty from the state.

So how do you remain anonymous in the state of New York? The only way to do this is to register a LLC (Limited Liability Company) in your name to claim the prize on your behalf. This would make the company the winner, and not you as an individual.
