A Durham resident has made history as the first player to claim a $2 million top prize in the North Carolina Education Lottery’s new scratch-off game.
Michael McKen struck it big after purchasing a 100X The Cash ticket for $20 at Light House Food Mart on Buck Jones Road in Raleigh.
On Tuesday, he visited lottery headquarters to collect his prize. He had two payout options: a $100,000 annuity over 20 years or a lump sum of $1.2 million. McKen opted for the lump sum, taking home $861,006 after taxes.
The 100X The Cash game launched in January with four $2 million top prizes and six $100,000 prizes. Lottery officials confirm that three $2 million prizes and four $100,000 prizes are still up for grabs.
