An Austin-area resident turned an ordinary stop at an H-E-B store into a life-changing moment, claiming a $1 million prize from the Texas Lottery. The lucky winner, from Elgin, a city located just 25 miles east of Austin, won after purchasing a 500X scratch-off ticket at the H-E-B store on 1080 Highway 290 W., Elgin, TX 78621.
This win marks the sixth of 15 top $1 million prizes from the 500X game. The game boasts over $229 million in total prizes, with odds of winning any prize standing at 1 in 3.36. The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, adds to the growing list of Texans who are cashing in on the game’s big payouts.
Though the Texas Lottery faces scrutiny over two controversial $83.5 million Lotto Texas jackpots, the recent win highlights that many players continue to rake in substantial prizes. In a positive turn, the Texas Lottery Commission was also recognized as one of the top workplaces in the country by USA Today.
Ryan Mindell, the executive director of the Texas Lottery Commission, expressed his pride in the honor. “Being named a Top Workplace is a testament to the dedication and passion of our employees. Their commitment to supporting public education, veterans, and charitable causes truly sets us apart,” Mindell said.
