What started as a relaxing trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula turned into a life-changing moment for a Genesee County lottery club, who won $2 million playing the 100X instant game from the Michigan Lottery.
The group had made a pit stop at Trout Lake Speedy Mart, located at 21601 M 123, about 30 miles northwest of Saint Ignace, when they picked up a few scratch-off tickets. The big win came shortly after hitting the road again.
“I was driving when my friend started scratching the tickets,” said the club’s representative. “As soon as he revealed the $2 million prize, he handed me the ticket in shock. It didn’t feel real.”
Opting for the lump-sum payout, the group took home approximately $1.3 million. Their plans? A well-deserved vacation, clearing bills, and finally living debt-free.
“Winning with a best friend makes this moment even more special,” said Michigan Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “A huge congratulations to the winners.”
This win adds to a streak of big lottery moments in Michigan. In June 2024, the “Breakfast Club” claimed a massive $842 million Mega Millions jackpot. Meanwhile, a $250,000 Powerball ticket sold in Bloomfield Hills last year sadly went unclaimed, with those funds going to the School Aid Fund.
