A woman from Greenville has become the first $1 million top-prize winner in the North Carolina Education Lottery’s new Jackpot Millions scratch-off game.
According to lottery officials, Jeanette King purchased the $20 Jackpot Millions ticket at the Harris Teeter on Evans Street in Greenville. Her ticket delivered the game’s first $1 million top prize.
King visited lottery headquarters on Monday to claim her winnings. Instead of receiving the prize as $50,000 per year for 20 years, she selected the one-time cash option worth $600,000.
After mandatory state and federal tax deductions, her final payout totaled $432,066.
The Jackpot Millions scratch-off launched earlier this month featuring three $1 million top prizes. Following King’s win, lottery officials confirmed that two top prizes are still available to be claimed.
