Someone is B.C. There are eight million reasons to be joyful now.
The B.C. The B.C. Lottery Corporation (BCLC), announced that a Chilliwack ticket purchased Wednesday night won Wednesday night’s Lotto 6/49 drawing — an $8 million windfall.
According to the BCLC, that ticket was the only one in Canada to match all six winning numbers (16-25, 31, 34 and 40 respectively),
The $8 million prize hadn’t been claimed as of Thursday afternoon. BCLC noted that the 52-week deadline for lottery winners to claim their prize is the draw date printed on their ticket.
BCLC stated in an email to Global News that some players would rather wait until they claim a life-changing prize than to claim it.
BCLC is the best place to get help for other players. This is an individual decision. All lottery players have one calendar year to claim their prize.
However, the lottery corporation pointed out that only a small portion of lottery winnings are claimed each year in B.C. and most were for small amounts such as a few bucks.
BCLC stated that it is extremely rare for major prizes worth $10,000 or more to be unclaimed. It did note that the $15 million winning ticket purchased in Vancouver for August 13, 2021’s Lotto Max draw was not claimed.
A $1 million ticket from the March 18, 2020 Lotto 6/49 draw on Vancouver Island was also unclaimed after it expired at midnight March 18, 2021.
BCLC states that unclaimed prize money will be returned to the prize pool.
BCLC reports that there were also three other notable B.C. This week’s winners
Both a Victoria ticket and a PlayNow.com ticket were purchased with matching 4/4 numbers. Each ticket won the $500,000.
A New Westminster ticket purchased matched five of six numbers and the bonus for a $100,774.60 prize.
According to the BCLC, the odds of winning the Lotto 6/49 jackpot is 1 in 13,983,816, and the odds that you will match 4/4 on the Extra are 1 out 3,764,376. The odds of matching five numbers and the bonus are 1: 2,330,636.
BCLC announces that in 2021, B.C. Lotto 6/49 Lotto winnings were more than $99 Million.
