Maryland woman wins $50,000 after a lottery vending machine error

Maryland woman claims that she accidentally pressed the wrong button when using a lottery machine to win $50,000.

A 43-year-old Hagerstown woman claimed that she was suing Halfway Liquors in Hagerstown for displacing a $5 Deluxe Crossword ticket rather than the $20 scratch-off game she intended to purchase.

The woman said,

I was like, ‘Dang,’ when that ticket came down. I don’t like Crossword games but this worked out well.

She claimed that she scratched off the ticket at home, and then scanned it using the Maryland Lottery app. The message read: “Congratulations — $50,000 Winner.

She said,

It was unbelievable. I thought there was something wrong with the app so I scanned it again.

The winner said that she called her children to share the news.

She recalled,

I put the ticket on a counter and scanned it again to see the winning message. They couldn’t believe that it was real.

She said that some of her winnings would go towards renovations to the house she just bought and the rest would go to the bank.
