Yorkton man wins $20M Lotto Max draw

Ernie Anuik found out about his win while going to Shoppers Drug Mart regularly to check his tickets with his son.

Saskatchewan has a multi-millionaire.

Ernie Anuik won the $20-million jackpot in the February 15 Lotto Max draw. He purchased a ticket at the Shoppers Drug Mart, 277 Broadway St. in Yorkton.

According to a Wednesday press release by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, he discovered his win while making a regular visit to the store with his son to check his tickets.

Anuik said in a news release that

I knew someone from Saskatchewan had won.

But that didn’t really influence me and give me any presumption of winning. Everybody has a chance to win, I have always believed.

He scanned his ticket and discovered the winning numbers: 19, 26, 28, 36, 40, 42, 42, 48.

Anuik stated,

I saw lots of zeros. There were two people behind us, and I don’t think they knew what was happening.

Anuik checked the ticket three times in the shop’s ticket checker before asking his son, who was then told by the lottery corporation, to come over and check it together.

The ticket was then scanned three more times before being validated by the clerk at the store.

Anuik answered a question about his plans and said that there was no sure thing. Nothing lasts forever. Accepting these two truths will help you get through many things in life.

He stated that he will speak to a financial advisor to discuss his new fortune.
