A routine lottery purchase before a long drive ended in an unforgettable payday for a Michigan man who captured a $2 million top prize from a scratch-off ticket.
The 27-year-old Mackinac County resident told Michigan Lottery officials that buying a Two Million Dollar Cashword ticket has become a personal tradition whenever he travels with family or friends.
During a recent visit to Sault Ste. Marie, the player stopped to buy his usual ticket before heading home with a friend. As they prepared to leave, he jokingly wondered aloud whether anyone actually wins the big prizes offered on scratch-off games.
That question was answered sooner than expected.
While riding home, the player scratched the ticket and initially believed he had uncovered enough words to claim a $10,000 prize. After reviewing the ticket several times, he discovered an additional winning word that completely changed the outcome.
The extra word boosted his prize to the game’s top award of $2 million.
The lucky winner said the realization was overwhelming and emotional. After confirming the result, he was overcome with excitement and struggled to believe what had happened.
Now looking ahead, the new millionaire plans to use part of his winnings for a dream vacation to Hawaii while also setting aside funds for future investments.
