Small Sierra Foothills Town Celebrates $5 Million Scratchers Jackpot

A Scratchers ticket worth a staggering $5 million was recently sold in Northern California, adding a burst of excitement to the quiet town of Georgetown.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Gas & Go market, nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills between Auburn and Placerville, according to the California Lottery.

While the identity of the lucky winner remains unknown, they must complete the Lottery’s standard vetting process, which typically takes 6 to 8 weeks.

“This is the biggest winner we’ve ever seen in our town,” said store owner Alissa Cimino, who’s also benefiting from the buzz.

As a bonus for selling the winning ticket, the Gas & Go market will receive a $25,000 payout from the Lottery—a win for both the player and the local business.
