Years of Confidence Pay Off: Rocky Mount Player Lands $100,000 Lottery Prize

A North Carolina man who spent years telling friends he would eventually win $100,000 from the lottery has finally turned that prediction into reality.

Donald Bunn, of Rocky Mount, scored the top prize after purchasing a $30 $100,000 Cash Payday scratch-off ticket on Saturday. The winning ticket was bought at Dabney Speed EZS Mart on Western Boulevard in Tarboro.

Bunn visited the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters on Monday to collect his winnings. After mandatory federal and state tax deductions, he received $72,018.

According to lottery officials, the lucky winner is considering putting the money toward the purchase of a new home.

The winning ticket came from the $100,000 Cash Payday scratch-off game, which debuted in March. The game launched with 80 top prizes worth $100,000 each, and lottery officials say 65 of those top prizes are still available to players across the state.
